Infertility is a unique medical condition. It is an area of gynaecology that can be very emotionally charged. It is a common condition with psychologic, economic, and medical implications. It is usually defined as absence of conception after 1 year of regular unprotected sex. We know that one in six Australian couples will experience some form of infertility.

What may cause infertility?

Male factor (Abnormal sperm)

Gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS

Uterine abnormalities

When to seek expert advice:

35 year old women and over who have been trying for 6 months to conceive
Women with history of abnormal cycle
Women or men with history of sterilization
Women or men with history of sexually transmitted diseases
Women with recurrent miscarriages
Men with previous urogenital surgery
Men with varicocele or an abnormal genital exam

Dr Joseph Jabbour is a Fertility Specialist with Monash IVF and can provide specialized care including IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) and IVF (Invitro Fertilization). Dr Jabbour looks after you in the clinic at Sunnybank Centre for Women and does the Egg Pick-up and Embryo Transfer at The Wesley Hospital.
