Travel in Pregnancy

Travelling by car in pregnancy is safe at all stages. It is important to always wear a seatbelt with the lap belt going beneath your belly and the shoulder belt between your breasts. During long trips always take breaks, and walk to stretch your legs.

You can also travel by plane. Move your feet often to prevent blood clots in your legs. Stand up and move around when it is safe to do so. You can also purchase compression stockings from your local chemist to help prevent clots. We would recommend against flying after 36 weeks.

Remember to always take your pregnancy health record when traveling.  This becomes very important if urgent medical attention is required elsewhere away from Sunnybank Private Hospital.
